The official snooker world ranking system ranks players based on their most recent performance. It is administered by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). Each ranking series event is updated with this listing. In order to be eligible to play on the World Snooker Tour, a player must have a current snooker world ranking. Seeding is determined by players' performance in particular tournaments.
For the first two years, the snooker world rankings were based on the results of three World Championships: the World Open, UK Championship, and the Professional Players Tournament. The winner of each of these events was given one seed, and the runner-ups were given two. The World Championship was the only ranked event from 1976 to 1982. However, in 1982, the International Open became the fourth ranking event. As the competition grew, more tournaments were introduced.
The World Championship saw the return of the knockout format. This was considered the start of modern snooker. Today, the majority of records are based in 1969. There are currently a total of 31 titles on the snooker world ranking list.
Ray Reardon, the undisputed snooker king, was in the 1970s. He was the World Champion, and won six Welsh amateur titles. He won the 1974 World Championship, the first ranking event. His record for the most number of ranking titles remained unbroken until 1998 when Steve Davis won it. He retired from snooker in the following years.
Stephen Hendry was one the most dominant players in the 1990s. He held the number 1-ranked position for eight years and claimed seven World Titles during that period. He is currently tied with Ronnie O'Sullivan on the all time ranking titles list. He will retire from snooker following the 2012 championships.
Judd Trump, currently world ranking snooker champion, is his name. He is the snooker player award winner. He has yet to reach the top. At the beginning of 2019, he was only one point behind Mark Williams. Both players will face off in the finals of the 2020 UK Championship and the Cazoo Masters.
Kyren Wilson is another big name in the rankings. He is a professional and specializes in the Premier League. He is a sports tipter and enjoys playing in the NBA or MLB. He also enjoys playing NFL and MLB. He has been a winner of four ranking finals in his two previous seasons. There have been two losses.
Mark Selby, a four-time world champion, has been eliminated in the quarter-final and semi-finals of the World Championship. He has also struggled with high-profile disappointments in his career.
From September 12-16, India's fourth Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament (Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament) will be held in Visakhapatnam. A number of celebrities will be watching the action. Entry to the event is free.
