Jimmy White - World Snooker Player

Jimmy White is one the most well-known snooker players around the globe. Born in Balham, London, Jimmy has enjoyed an impressive career that has seen him win 30 professional titles. His charismatic style and great natural talent are what make him unique. His accomplishments have seen him reach the top of the sport, in many countries.

He was also a member the England's World Cup team of 1988. In 1979, he also won The English Amateur Championship. He later went on to win the World Doubles Championship with Alex Higgins. This has given him a reputation as both a sportsman, and as a funny after-dinner speaker. He is also a passionate conservationist. As such, he has worked with award winning documentary teams and is an avid animal lover.

Jimmy White started his professional career as a golfer in the 1980s. He reached the final of both the British Open, and the Masters. He was a highly successful player in his early career and remained within the top eight throughout his entire career. His fortunes started to plummet in the 1990s. While he could not replicate his past success, he has been able retain his spot in the main touring for another season.

Jimmy White is known as an underdog. A player with a flamboyant style and a ruthless streak, he fought for his place in the sport with an unflinching determination to succeed. His 1999 world semi-final was one of his finest moments.


In his first two qualifying matches he did not drop a frame. However, he lost his next two tournaments to Matthew Selt in the deciding frame to Xiao Guodong. Despite these setbacks, he still enjoyed some great performances throughout the year.

He won three matches at full-ranking tournaments in 2014/15. However, he lost to Barry Hawkins in the International Championship, ending his season in disappointment. He finished eighth, just one place below the top 64.

The following season, Jimmy White became the youngest player to ever win the ranking event. He defeated Mark Selby, Stephen Hendry and David Morris during the tournament. With his win, he was able to secure his place in the professional top 64.

Jimmy White stars in BBC2's Docu-Series Gods Of Snooker. A fan favourite, he has become a popular figure for snooker fans across the world. When he isn’t playing, his time is split between snooker play and public speaking. He often hosts high-profile corporate events and awards ceremonies.

Jimmy White took advantage of his chance in China after he had fought for his spot in the top 64. In an effort to be in the top 64 again, he qualified for International Championship. He was the second player overall to achieve a maximum break in this tournament.
