Peter Lines has been a long-standing player in snooker. He reached the final of the English Amateur Championship in 1999, and made it to the quarterfinals of China Open in 1999. His success on the professional circuit began in 1991, when he turned professional. In the 1990s, he reached the quarter-finals in both the Strachan Open (Asian Open) and Strachan Open. 1998 saw him qualify for the televised World Championship stage.

His career is not particularly noteworthy, but Lines' career performance over the last few years has been exceptional. Lines reached the top 64 of Order of Merit and even made it to the quarterfinals of a ranking competition for the first-time in his career. The best part of his season was his run in the German Masters. In which he reached the semifinals and almost won,

After a promising start, his 2011/12 season was dreadful. As the season progressed his pressure mounted and he lost matches in four of his ranking events. At the end of the year, he was ranked just 57th on the European Tour. He was able to qualify for the World Championship qualifiers and secured a spot on the European Tour for another year.

He won two more major tournaments and defeated Joe Perry and Ian McCulloch. He also won a qualifier at the Players Tour Championships series (PTC), but it was not enough for him to be in the main tour.

In 2010, he won his first UK Championship. However, he was relegated back to the PTC events in the 2015/16 seasons. He has been playing in amateur tournaments ever since.

Lines' behavior during a match in China has been ruled inappropriate by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. The World Snooker Tour has received a complaint about Lines' behavior during a match in China and has initiated an investigation. The World Snooker Tribunal is expected to be referred to the matter.

The case was heard by the WPBSA on December 16th. Lines was fined for his offence. There was however an interesting aspect to Lines' fine. He was found guilty of violating two rules related to player conduct.

The first rule was that he replaced the white ball with his own after a foul-and-miss award. In this situation, professional players are not uncommon to temporarily hang up their cues. Lines' opponent, Brendan Moore, clashed with him over this issue. They claimed Lines had made an erroneous statement, but Lines maintained that Moore was correct.

The World Snooker Tour on the other side claimed that Lines used "swear language and intimidation" during his match. Lines threatened to fight outside.
