World Ranking Snooker

The official snooker rankings system is an official listing that ranks players based their recent performance. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association administers it. This listing is updated at the end of each ranking series. To be eligible for the World Snooker Tour a player must hold an current snooker world ranking. Players are seeded according to their performance in specific tournaments and their ranking.

The first two years of the snooker ranking were based on three World Championships results: the World Open Championship, UK Championship Championship, and Professional Players Tournament. The winner of each of these events was given one seed, and the runner-ups were given two. From 1976 through 1982, the World Championship was a ranking event. The International Open in 1982 became the fourth ranking tourney. There were more tournaments as the competition grew.

The World Championship knockout format was also reintroduced during this period. This was considered the start of modern snooker. Most records today are based upon the 1969 period. The current snooker world ranking lists has 31 titles.

In the 1970s Ray Reardon was the undisputed king of the snooker world. He won six Welsh amateur titles in a row and was also the World Champion. He won the 1974 World Championship. This was his first ranking event. His record for the most number of ranking titles remained unbroken until 1998 when Steve Davis won it. But he retired from snooker.


Stephen Hendry was one of the most dominating players of the 1990s. He was the number one player for eight consecutive years, and he won seven world titles. Today, he is tied with Ronnie O'Sullivan for the all-time ranking titles list. He will retire from snooker following the 2012 championships.

Judd Trump, currently world ranking snooker champion, is his name. He is the snooker player award winner. He has not yet been able to take the top spot. He was just one point ahead of Mark Williams at the beginning 2019 Both players will compete in the finals the 2020 UK Championships and Cazoo Masters.

Kyren Wilson is another big name in the rankings. He is a professional who specializes on the Premier League. He is a sports tipter and enjoys playing in the NBA or MLB. He also enjoys playing NFL and MLB. In his last two seasons, he has won four ranking finals, with two losses in the finals.

Mark Selby is a four-time World Champion. He has been knocked out in the World Championship quarter-finals. His career has been filled with high-profile disappointments.

From September 12-16, the fourth Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Tournament in Visakhapatnam will be held. There will be many celebrities there to enjoy the action. The event is open to all.
