Shaun Murphy - Snooker Player Profile

Shaun Murphy, a world-class player in snooker, is well-known for his straight cue action and long potting. He has achieved over 400 century breaks in his career, including the second maximum break in the Championship League in 2014.

At the beginning of 2008/2009, Murphy was ranked third in the world. For the 2010/2011 seasons, Murphy fell to number 7. In 2011 he won the Players Tour Championship and completed his career Triple Crown. Murphy was considered a huge underdog at the time, and it was a surprising win. Then in 2012 he reached the final of the UK Championship. But, he was defeated by Judd Trump who became the eventual winner.

Murphy is a gifted player. He has had many firsts. His first 147 break, first ranking title and first appearance at the World Snooker Championship are just a few of his many firsts.

He started his career in 1998 on the Challenge Tour. Also known as the UK Tour. Tony, his father was a professional golfer. He was bullied as a teenager at school. Although he attended homeschooling classes, he didn't see his mom until a year later. Elaine, his mother, met him a year later. The couple were married in June 2006. They were married in 2014 despite his family's concerns.

In his career, Shaun has won over PS3 million in prize money. He has won seven other tournaments. Moreover, he has played in eight ranking tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals of two.

He was ranked four in the World at the start the 2004/2005 Season. He also won both the Brugge Open (Welsh Open) and the Brugge Open. He was also diagnosed with Savant Syndrome.


In 2005, he won his first World Championship. He was awarded the BBC Sportsman of the YEAR award the following year. He then became a San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital, California surgical resident.

When Murphy was a young boy, he had difficulty communicating with other people. Murphy's social skills may have been affected by this. While he has had a few difficult relationships, he has also been able solve them. Elaine was his girlfriend when he proposed to her at an Irish restaurant.

Ray Reardon mentored him at 15 years of age. After Ray Reardon, he worked for Steve Prest until 2006. Willie Thorne served as his coach during the 2007/2008 seasons. Throughout that season, he won the Challenge Tour's third and fourth events.

Murphy won the Wuxi Classic in China. He was then invited to the elite top 16. He made his next appearance at the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. Despite playing only five frames in the tournament's qualifying round, he advanced to the quarterfinals beating teenager Luca Brecel.

He then went on to win the German Masters, the Ruhr Championship, and the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. For the entire 2008/2009 season, he was still ranked number 3. He also reached the semi finals of both the Shanghai Masters and UK Championship during that season.
