The Difference Between Snooker & Billiards

how to play snooker

Pool and snooker both use cue sticks for hitting a ball into a box. While they share some similarities, there are significant differences. These differences can help determine which game is best for your needs.

Both pool and snooker can be played on a tabletop. Although the rules and equipment may be similar, the play and objectives are entirely different. In a nutshell, pool consists of eight or ten balls whereas snooker has fifteen red balls. The number of balls you'll use will depend on which pool you're playing. Snooker is more complex than pool.

The aim of snooker consists of getting as many balls in your pocket as possible, while keeping your opponent’s ball out of the pocket. Each red or non-red ball you keep in your pocket earns you a point. If you miss a shot, you are not awarded any points. But, if your shot is successful and you have all the red or nonred balls, you'll be given three to six point.

A snooker board is similar in appearance to a pool deck, but it has pockets at each end. But the balls are smaller and the table is much larger. Snooker tables in Europe and the UK are generally 6 feet long while pool tables are 5 feet.

As with pool, snooker relies on a stringent scoring system. To earn a points, you must have a certain number of balls in your pocket. The frame ends when all of the red balls in the pocket are gone. The frame is closed. Players may continue shooting until they miss their shot. The rules could vary depending upon where they are located. Some players may prefer to use a call pocket. This is a great method to learn the game since you have the option of choosing the pocket ball.

Snooker cues are lighter and thinner than pool cues. They also have smaller tips. Snooker can be difficult to pocket because it is played on a bigger table. You will also need more precision.

A player can advance from 8-ball to 9-ball. There are many options for pool, to suit different levels. Most players prefer the 8-ball version of the game.

Snooker is a lot more competitive than pool. Players use the green call to try and get as many points as possible within a certain time. The player who gets the most points is the winner.

Snooker and pool require quick reflexes as they are both fast-paced. The scoring system for snooker is much more rigid. Even if the player has all the balls in order, fouls are still possible if the player takes a non-red or striped ball.

It doesn't matter how you choose to play, the game of snooker can be very entertaining. The sport is very popular in both the UK and USA.
