Badminton rules change from one match to another. Badminton World Federation (BWF), rules define the fundamental aspects of the sport. They define skills and shots, as well. There are many rules that govern service and how to use the shuttlecock. Understanding these rules is essential to winning a badminton match.

The service is the most crucial shot in a badminton tournament. This is a shot that can only be hit once, and will result in a point for the receiver. This right is earned by the receiver winning a rally in official BWF play.

You need to be familiar with the service rules for each type of game. The most important rule is that you can not serve overhead or touch any part of the net with a body. The net can only be served diagonally. Another rule is that the shuttlecock cannot be hit twice in one match.

The BWF's rules also stipulate that you should not serve the wrong way. You can serve from either the right or left side of the court depending on whether the score is even. If it is not, you can serve from both sides. You cannot serve from any court outside of the white borders.

Serving a birdie is a feat of skill that is both impressive and important. However, you will not have the chance to hit it if it is caught in the net.

A shuttlecock is a half-round, feathered ball that has a featherlike material at its bottom. It is only allowed to be hit once before bouncing to the other side. Additionally, it is only permitted to be hit on the lower birdie side. If it bounces back, it will return down.

There are some good service guidelines that you should be aware of. One is that the shuttlecock must land on the service line when it is considered to be the correct service. This is the same for doubles. A point will be awarded to you if you serve in the appropriate court.

Similar rules can be used to determine whether a shot is a good idea or bad. These include using the right racket, not using too heavy racquets, and having your waistline above the line when serving.

These are just a handful of the over 30 rules for badminton that you need to remember when you play. Your opponent may win the game by a large margin.

One of the most important rules in badminton is that you can only have one hit to get the shuttle over the net. You can also receive a point for touching the net.

Another important rule is that you cannot hit the shuttlecock two times in a row. Ideally, the birdie should have a rounded base. You don't need to be perfect but it's a good idea to learn how to return a meal in the right direction.
