Having only started a couple of years ago, billiards enthusiast Ralph Greenleaf has already become one of the country's best players. He has taken part in at least three tournaments of cushion billiards and was a top-10 player in the Illinois 3-cushion billiards tourney last month. He has been regularly visiting the Twin Cities billiards club each month.
Nguyen Quyet Nguyen and Tran Quyetchien are two of Vietnam's most highly-ranked billiards players. These two players are among the top ten in the world. Both players are currently in the top eight with Tran Qyet Chien at number seven. Both players are the tournament's champions. Ngo Dinh Nai is ranked number 29, Jeremy Bury from France ranks number 18.
On December 20-22, the 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Continental Cup in Vietnam will take place. The tournament will see eight top Vietnamese players competing. The total prize money is approximately 160,000 USD. Other events and tournaments will be held throughout year.
The United States Billiard Association or USBA is the official governing authority for carom pool in the United States. Each year, the National Championship culminates in a series events organized by The USBA. The top two players from the National Championship will represent the USA at the Pan-American Championship.
The three cushion billiards tournaments that were held at Madison 3-Cushion Bingo Club were fiercely contested and competitive. The tournament saw two flights with six players each. The tournament was handicapped. This meant that the semi-finals were reached by the first five participants in each flight. The top 12 players will receive $7,400. Bruce Venzke (the cue game legend) was the tournament director.
The tournament was sponsored by the UMB (Union of Billiards and Carom Billiards), which is the official governing body for 3-cushion billiards in the world. UMB organizes several recurring tournaments every year. A number of upcoming events will be displayed on the UMB Turnier Schedule.
This tournament was held south of Binh Duong. Eight teams battled each other over three nights. The semi-finals are decided by the top 2 teams. The quarterfinals are decided by the 3rd and 4th teams. The final round is single elimination. The Las Vegas World Cup 3-cushion Billiobilliards Tournament winner will receive a cash award of $20,000. This is the first appearance of a Vietnamese representative in the semi-finals.
3-Cushion Billiards Tournament, although a relatively new game has seen great popularity all over the world. It is also featured in the animated Disney short film Donald from Mathmagic. It was also featured in Seven Billiard Tables, a 2007 Goya Award-winning Spanish movie.
